LEWISTON – Earle Francis Nickerson Jr., 70, of Academy Road in Monmouth, died early Saturday morning, Sept. 16, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, where he had been a patient since Sept. 7.

He was born March 12, 1936, in Lewiston, the son of Elvina and Earle F. Nickerson Sr. Earle attended schools in Buckfield and Turner.

On Oct. 12, 1967, in Mechanic Falls, he married Joan Midgley George.

Earle worked as a police officer in Auburn, then as a police chief in Mechanic Falls and Lisbon. From 1984 to 1994, he and his wife owned and operated Monmouth Market. Earle and his wife enjoyed spending the winters in Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Joan of Monmouth; two daughters, Debra Lee Snow of Davenport, Fla., and Linda Vincent of Steep Falls; two sons, Thomas George and his wife, Noreane of Umatilla, Fla., and Gary George and his wife, Kathy, of Lewiston; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Winston Nickerson and his wife, Barbara, of Germany, and Orborn Nickerson and his wife, Patricia, of Texas; three sisters, Gail Olgesby of Texas, Donna Zink and her husband, Gil, of Lebanon, Maine, and Debra Brown of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Brenda Garza.
