BRUNSWICK – Luisa Ford of Lisbon passed away amongst family members at Mid Coast Medical Center on Thursday, Sept. 14.
She was born in Naples, Italy, on May 29, 1934, the daughter of doctor/professor Bartolo Cassaglia and Maria Peruffo Cassaglia. She received her education in Italy, and there later was married in the Vatican to Martin James Ford III.
She traveled with her husband and family and occasionally returned to Italy, which she very much enjoyed doing. Her most recent trip was this past summer to show her granddaughter, Marie, her homeland.
Her warm, brown eyes would smile with sparkling satisfaction at the fine educational achievements of her children and each of her grandchildren. She encouraged each of them and was very proud of the fact that they have all achieved honor grades in their respective schools.
Luisa was a very caring and devoted wife and loving mother. She honored her husband’s and son’s military careers and achievements with pride.
She loved to garden and had a most marvelous flair for Italian cooking, reminding her family that food is an expression of God’s gifts of love and abundance.
She has impressed upon us the importance of measured thought and careful consideration of people and of life itself with its many circumstances. Through suffering, she has taught us to be mindful of forbearance, through her laughter, shared warmth. Her consideration for her loved ones was always expressed, either directly or indirectly, personally or with private tears.
As an exemplary wife, mother, grandmother and friend, we send her our final tribute with our love and prayers.
Luisa is survived by her beloved husband, Martin J. Ford III of Lisbon; son, Martin J. Ford IV and his wife, Michele; son, Bartolo Ford and his wife, Diane; granddaughter, Marie A. Ford; grandsons, Tyler Ford and Martin J. Ford V; and several other family members and friends in Italy and the United States.
