I am writing as a friend of The Theater At Monmouth to endorse Rep. Nancy Smith’s candidacy, and to thank her for supporting the business of the arts in Monmouth.

When Turnpike Exit 86 opened in Sabattus, we asked the Maine Turnpike Authority for a historical attraction sign directing drivers to Cumston Hall. After a rejection, we contacted Rep. Smith, whose numerous e-mails, conversations, proposed legislation and use of political capital led the authority to provide directional signs.

As a result of her efforts, visitors now know that “You can get there from here” to tour Cumston Hall, see outstanding professional productions by The Theater At Monmouth, and visit other businesses on Main Street in Monmouth.

After 2005, in which the theater suffered financially from a decreased number of visitors, Rep. Smith helped it stay in business in 2006, and I strongly support her re-election campaign.
