CAMDEN – George H. Lyons, 75, of Camden and Zephyrhills, Fla., passed on suddenly at his home in Camden on Friday, Sept. 15, with his loving wife by his side.
He was born in Saugus, Mass., on June 18, 1931, the son of Mabel and John (Jack) Lyons. He graduated from Edward Little High School in Auburn in 1949.
He served in the Navy from 1950 to 1954. He attended SMVTI in Portland and graduated with an associate degree in electrical engineering. He then worked at Bath Iron Works until he retired in 1994. He continued doing consulting work for them until 1996.
He married Beverly Moffitt on Sept. 1, 1956. They were married until she passed away in 1975. He married Barbara Wilcox on June 23. 1983. Since their retirement, they have spent their summers in Maine and their winters in Valley Dale Park in Zephyrhills, Fla.
George was the treasurer of the social club for many years. One of the most unexpected, but most satisfactory episodes in George’s life was when he and Barbara were voted to become king and queen of Valley Dale Park.
He was very passionate about his role in the park. He was an avid coin and stamp collector. He and Barbara enjoyed traveling to different states and took many cruises abroad. He also enjoyed indulging in a variety of culinary delights. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara; children, Lori Lyons of Litchfield, Denis Lyons of Seattle, Wash., and Daniel Lyons of Hallowell; stepchildren, Dannie Wilcox of San Francisco, Debbi and Marc Bechtel of Mesquite, Nev., and Carrie Ponte of Rockport; grandchildren, Moe Cloutier, Jen Wilcox, Judson Wilcox, Broden Wilcox, Jaime Lyons, Todd Lyons, John Ponte, Hannah Ponte, Elias Hill and Zoe Hill; one brother, Edward Lyons; and two sisters, Anna Langlois and Elizabeth Maheux.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Mabel Lyons; brothers, John, William and Paul Lyons.
He will be sadly missed and remembered with love by all who knew him.
