The political cartoon you featured last week which compares the Maine Warden Service with the Gestapo was brilliant! For years they have been an unchecked police organization, out of control, holding Maine people hostage and literally terrorizing them.
In Aug. 2006, wardens wouldn’t respond to a woman’s concern to a strange animal found dead in Turner because it costs 50 cents per mile for wardens to respond to calls. Instead, the animal makes national news, causes mass hysteria, and undergoes multiple DNA tests at great expense.
Last fall, a warden summons a man for having unlabeled moose meat in his freezer, after he immediately complies and labeled the packages. The case was ultimately dismissed.
Those cases are just the “tip of the iceberg!”
Game wardens need to be re-educated in law, justice, ethics, common sense and what it truly means to serve the public. Look no further than the Maine State Police. They know what the laws are, what probable cause is, what intent means.
They conduct themselves in a professional, courteous, compassionate manner with great integrity. Above all, state troopers possess class. They should retrain wardens.
Maybe the war on terror, does in fact, start at home.
