OXFORD – At next year’s fair, parents can let their kids enjoy the rides while they watch the races because they won’t be so far away.

The viewing area for the race track at the Oxford County Fairgrounds is being moved. Viewers will be able to watch the races from the fair side of the track, instead of the opposite side, said fair Vice President Caldwell Jackson.

The former Ledgewood Motel building is in place to provide an undercover viewing area. Another section of the motel will be moved to use as a betting stall.

Currently, the race track viewing area is separated from the rest of the fair. On Friday, viewers sat in lawn chairs watching harness racing while the rest of the fair proceeded more than 1,000 feet away.

A grandstand will be put up, and a judging box will be constructed. There will also be new fencing.

Jackson said he thinks this will benefit the fairgrounds. Families will be able to attend the fair together and all enjoy the different activities.
