RUMFORD – Frank Anastasio, 92, died Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Rumford Community Home. He was a resident of Kimball Avenue in Mexico.
Born in Rumford on Oct. 4, 1913, he was a son of Frank and Rose (Pettinato) Anastasio. He graduated from Rumford High School with the class of 1931.
He served in the US Army during World War II, with the 66th Airborne Squadron from 1942 to 1945, including Normandy, Northern France and Air Offensive Europe.
He worked at International Paper Company for a time, and then for Oxford Paper Company in Rumford, for 14 years.
Later, he owned and operated Frank’s Barber Shop on Waldo Street from 1947 until he retired in 1986.
He was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church in Mexico. He was also a life member of the Robert Shand Post 1641, VFW, and Napoleon Ouellette Post 24 American Legion.
He was a former member of Fr. Ambrose J. Barry Council 2091 K of C.
He was married in Rumford on September 28, 1942, to Diana Dorion, who survives of Mexico. Other survivors include two sons, Frank J. Anastasio and wife, Cheryl, of Rumford, and Eugene Anastasio and wife, Joan, of Keene, N.H.; a daughter, Mrs. Janet Haas and husband, Richard, of Annandale, Va.; a brother, Philip Anastasio of Gorham; a sister, Mrs. Rose Gaccetta of Rumford; and four grandchildren, Erika Kerrigan and husband, Jason, of Charlottesville, Va., Michael Anastasio and wife, Jaime, of Walpole, N.H., Nicholas Anastasio of Keene, N.H., and Marc Anastasio of Lewiston; and two great-grandchildren.
