JAY – School Committee members took no action on adding another education technician for the new pre-kindergarten program, Superintendent Robert Wall said.

There was a motion, he said, but it failed for lack of a second.

Administrators had proposed hiring a half-time education technician four days a week in addition to the full-time teacher and an education technician who works four days a week.

They had also wanted to expand the space for the program, which has 19 students in each of the morning and afternoon sessions.

Wall had previously said that they could get along with the space and staff that they had but it was a tight fit.

The board did approve hiring two education technicians for special services, Wall said, for the remainder of the year.

They also approved the School Department’s draft pandemic influenza plan, hired Mark Given as a middle/high school custodian/bus driver and hired Jeremy Richards as an elementary school custodian bus driver.

Retired teacher Karen Mitchell was hired to teach one science class for the remainder of the school year.
