TEMPLE – A Chesterville man remained in critical condition Wednesday with internal injuries and serious face lacerations after the the all-terrain-vehicle he was driving Saturday landed on top of him.
Christopher Bohlman, 38, the meat manager at Hannaford in Farmington, was one of a group of people riding four-wheelers on a trail in Temple when they stopped at a gravel pit along the trail, Maine Warden Service spokesman Mark Latti said Wednesday. Bohlman was going up a steep bank and didn’t realize the other side of it was a straight drop of 12 feet, he said.
As the ATV went over, Bohlman fell off and the ATV landed on top of him, he said.
Temple firefighters were called to help rescue Bohlman.
The accident happened about 3 miles from the end of the dirt Mitchell Brook Road that turns into a lumber company road, Temple Assistant Fire Chief George Blodgett said.
“I found him with two or three other people,” he said.
Blodgett then went out to the main road to tell NorthStar Emergency Medical Services medics where to find him.
Temple firefighters and ambulance crew members carried in the gear off another trail which was about 200 yards from the victim.
Bohlman was put on a backboard and carried out, Blodgett said.
“Once we found him, we got him out quickly,” he said.
Bohlman was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital and then to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with internal injuries and lacerations, Latti said.
“He had some really bad facial lacerations,” Latti said.
Wardens Blaine Holding and Sgt. Pat Devlin handled the call.
Bohlman is a typical good guy who helps out everybody, friend Scott Shink said Wednesday.
Bohlman, whose wife is Erika, has worked at Hannaford for more than 20 years, Shink said.
