Auburn – Louise B. Sylvester, 96, of 1128 Riverside Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Clover Manor, where she resided for the past 17 months.

She was born in Durham, March 19, 1910, a daughter of Leon R. and Almeda Libby Bowie. She was educated in Durham schools, graduated from Edward Little High School and attended Farmington Normal School.

She was married to Charles W. Sylvester Nov. 17, 1946. He died July 27, 2005. She taught in many local communities including Durham, Pownal, Lisbon Falls and Auburn.

She was involved with the preservation of the Penley Corner Church, and was a member of Eastern Star 77 years, Republican Club, Stanton Bird Club, Retired Teachers Association and Woman’s Literary Union.

She loved visiting her son, William at Clayton Lake and enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking and canning vegetables. She traveled on Senior Citizens “Mystery Tours” to visit relatives and with friends.

She is survived by her son, William Sylvester of Clayton Lake, and his companion, Jeannine Pelletier, of Auburn; her sisters, Margaret Rendall of Falmouth and Dorothy Bowie of Durham; her brothers, Frank M. Bowie and wife, Lucille, of Durham and Maynard Bowie and wife, Glenice, of Wales; her sisters-in-law, Ruth S. Benjamin and husband, Col. George C., of Auburn and Velma S. Becker of Auburn; and several nieces and nephews.
