GREENWOOD – Leaton E. Sumner, 92, died quietly Sept. 20, at home with his family around him.

He was born Sept. 29, 1913, in South Paris, the son of Floyd and Minnie (Whitman) Sumner and was educated in West Paris schools. He was a millworker most of his life.

He is survived by two sisters, Madeline Violette and Rita Whichelow; one brother, Richard Sumner; 11 children, Samuel Sumner, Elisabeth Cadrette, Floyd Sumner, Lois Abbott, Leaton “Skip” Sumner Jr., Linda Wade, Kathleen Polley, Mary Jean Connell, Alrick Sumner, Susan Kemp and Viola Pierchorowicz; 31 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Myrtle Allen Sumner; two daughters, Barbara and Bertha Sumner; and a brother, Richard.
