SABATTUS – The American Legion, Department of Maine, will present its Educator of the Year Award today to a Sabattus teacher.

Aimee N. Lanteigne, eighth-grade teacher at the Sabattus Central School, has been chosen because of her ongoing efforts to link the worlds of veterans and students. One of her most notable contributions is her facilitation of Veterans Day in which students have family veterans come to school to tell their stories to students.

Lanteigne has been teaching for 12 years and said she loves holding events that help support veterans.

“The Legion says I’m their hero,” she said. “But in reality they are the ones who put their lives on the line. They are the real heroes.”

The event will take place at the Sabattus American Legion hall at 2 p.m.

Gov. John Baldacci and local government representatives are scheduled to attend.
