LEWISTON – Roland A. Vachon, 75, a resident of Maison Marcotte, died Sunday, Sept. 24.
Born in Lewiston on Aug. 29, 1931, the son of Irenee and Alice (Lavallee) Vachon, he was a member of this community all his life.
He was a veteran of the Maine Army National Guard, serving for over twelve years. On May 5, 1951, he married the former Liette C. Bechard. She predeceased him on Oct. 31, 1998.
He retired from the maintenance department at D’ Youville Pavilion. Prior to his retirement from D’Youville, he had worked for 20 years at Reliable Oil Company.
He was a member of Holy Family Parish and was one of the committee members who originally started the current beano organization of Holy Family Church. He recently was a volunteer at D’Youville Pavilion.
He is survived by four daughters, Miss Denise Vachon of Maryland, Constance Sylvester and her husband, Donald, of North Carolina, Sandra Slowik and her husband, Glen, of Standish, and Celine Dodge and her husband, Thomas, of Auburn; one son, Donald Vachon and his wife, Susan, of Lewiston; three sisters, Jeannine Perron and her husband, Normand, of Lewiston, Pauline Morin and her husband, Lionel, of Greene and Helen Reynolds and her husband, Jay, of Wayne; seven grandchildren, Becky, Vanessa, Nicole, Chad, Amanda, Dylan and Katherine; and two great-grandchildren, Emily and Avery.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by one sister, Gilberte Pinette; and three brothers, Irenee, Lucien and Robert.
