GREENE – Two different ideas on what do to with the deteriorating Allen Pond dam are expected to be presented at a public hearing Thursday night, Town Manager Charles Noonan told selectmen Monday night.
The Allen Pond Improvement Association stated in a letter earlier this month that it intends to file a petition to abandon the dam, which a state report said is leaking and could give way if not repaired or rebuilt. The state could remove the structure, lowering the water level of the pond as much as 4 feet in places.
Pond property owner David Casavant said responsibility and liability for the dam has become too much for the group to handle.
On Monday, Noonan said some members of the association and others have said they did not know about the proposal and are opposed to handing over responsibility of the dam.
“I believe we are going to see two very different point of views,” Noonan said. “There’s another group of people out there.”
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Greene Fire Station.
In other town business Monday night, Town Manager Charlie Noonan and Road Foreman Bruce Tuft announced that Bull Run Road will be the last to be paved this season.
“Winter is coming, and I don’t think we have enough time to get Quaker Ridge Road paved,” Tuft said. Town officials said it will be paved next year.
