LIVERMORE – Selectpersons voted Monday night to adopt the highway capital improvement expenditures submitted by Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub.
These expenditures include final preparation and application of calcium on Strickland Ferry Road by C.H. Stevenson Co., drainage repair on Fish Meadow Road to be done by Lovell Logging, and paving Israelson Road, along with some miscellaneous paving to be performed by Dave Parlin.
When asked by Chairperson Grace Jacques when the projects would commence, Selectperson Tom Berry said the work would be started, “right off.”
Town Clerk Renda Libby told the board that she has attended many conferences regarding the election update. The town will be installing a new audio visual system.
In addition to the seven regular election booths, there will be one specific booth that will accommodate the hearing- and sight-impaired. This is one of the changes that the town is making to be in compliance with state and federal law.
The booth will be equipped with a phone and fax line, and once the person has voted, the ballot will move over the fax line and the voter will place the ballot in the box. There will be an assistant available to help the voter.
The new voting booths were donated by the town of Sanford and are collapsible, but very heavy because the boxes they came in are made of wood.
“These are the original boxes,” Berry said, “manufactured in 1935.”
“They even came with curtains, so there will be no expense to the town,” Libby said.
Voting will take place at the Town Office in order to comply with state and federal regulations.
The board, along with Libby, commended Schaub for his work on the Turkey Lane grant, which was a success. The federal share of the grant will be $105,621 (75 percent), with the town’s share $35,207 (25 percent). Berry said there is still a lot of work to be done before the actual project is started.
The Cemetery Committee will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Selectpersons will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, both at the Town Office. The Town Office will be closed for the Columbus Day Holiday (Oct. 9).
