AUBURN – M. Elizabeth “Betty” Gluck, 86, of 97 North Saunders Road., Greene died Sept. 24, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on July 21, 1920, in Waterloo, N.Y. the daughter of Harry and Hester (Berry) Leclear. She attended schools in Waterloo, N.Y. and graduated from Cornell University in 1942.
On April 28, 1966, she married John Gluck in New York City.
After completing several banking courses, she worked for a number of years in banking. She then worked for more than 30 years in the insurance industry with Longley Associates which brought her to Lewiston. In 1981, she was elected treasurer/tax collector for the town of Greene, a position she held until her retirement in 1985.
She is survived by her husband, John of Greene; many cousins from the east coast to the west coast; special to her was her cousin, Cynthia Phillips of Reading, Pa.; and her husband’s family in Herend, Hungary, who had adopted Betty as a member of their family.
