Minot – Nelson W. Rhedin, “Nelly,” 60, of Minot, was called home to heaven unexpectedly on Saturday, Sept. 23.

He was born on Aug. 30, 1946. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Rhedin of Washington.

He was a kind, gentle man who touched the lives of anyone who was lucky enough to meet him. For the last six and a half years, he had lived in Minot, in a John F. Murphy Home, where he had his own apartment.

He had many jobs, which included going to Brunswick and picking up and delivering the Lewiston/Auburn edition of the popular “Coffee News” paper. He also delivered the “New Gloucester News” to local businesses in Mechanic Falls.

He was very proud to serve his community and was “all business” while on the job. He loved all living things. He especially loved birds, chipmunks, babies and anything or anyone else he felt needed his love. He enjoyed the chipmunks and birds, while sitting on his deck, in his favorite chair, listening to one of his many radios. He also enjoyed watching game shows on TV, or listening to the police scanner.

He looked forward to going out into the community for shopping, errands or to Dairy Queen for his “must have” ice cream, or just hanging out and watching the sights. Some of his great loves were Coca-Cola, sweet desserts, and his Mother, Dorothy whom he adored.

He will be sadly missed by Denise, who has been there from the start, Darlene, a strong advocate, Billie Jo who added spice to his life, Derek, Rhonda, and Carlos and his friends and staff at Morgan Brook. He really loved his home in Minot, and his John F. Murphy Home family. He has forever touched our lives, and will never be forgotten.
