FARMINGTON – Adeline V. “Addie” Walrath, 98, of Hundred Acre Farm, Strong, died Sunday, Sept. 24, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.

She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Dec. 18, 1908, the daughter of Benjamin V. and Lulu R. (Richey) Vorwerck. She attended schools in Cincinnati, Philadelphia and Chicago. After graduation from high school, she worked as a secretary in downtown Chicago.

On Aug. 23, 1930, she married Harold H. “Wally” Walrath. He died in 1986. They were the parents of two children, Douglas and Judy. They moved to a variety of cities throughout the United States during his long career with the Western Electric Co.

After his retirement, they became residents of Florida, and following his death, she became a part-year resident in her own apartment at Hundred Acre Farm in Strong. She became a year-round resident beginning in 1998.

Addie enjoyed painting and sewing. She was an active church member her entire life, most recently at the Fairbanks Union Church in Farmington. Everywhere she went, she made many friends. She had a lively and inquiring mind throughout her life. At the age of 94, she learned to use a computer and for the rest of her life carried on an extensive e-mail correspondence with her friends and grandchildren.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Sherry Walrath of Strong; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Donald Weber of Hillsborough, N.H.; seven grandchildren, Martha, Philip, Stephen, Rebecca, Mark, Shannon and Bryan; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Barbara Jean.
