BETHEL – A Greenwood man was taken Tuesday to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway after crashing his employer’s box truck into a ledge outcrop. It was his second accident in three days, Bethel police Chief Alan Carr said Tuesday afternoon.

Casey D. Parker, 29, was driving a Western Maine Supply truck north on Sunday River Road about 11:30 a.m. when the truck crossed the centerline and went off the opposite lane’s shoulder.

Carr said the truck’s left tire struck a rock, bending the rim and spinning the rear of the truck, which was carrying a load of windows, back into the road. The front of the truck continued forward, striking a rock outcrop that shoved the front axle backward, the chief said.

Because Parker couldn’t recall what happened, Bethel Rescue took him to the Norway hospital to be examined, Carr said.

The chief said Tuesday night that the hospital advised him Parker was checked and released.

The truck sustained an estimated $2,000 in damage. Its cargo was loaded onto another truck from the Bethel building supply store.

At 9:01 p.m. Saturday, Carr said Parker did an estimated $5,000 in damage to his 1996 Chevrolet Blazer after losing control of it while turning off Route 26 onto Rabbit Road. The sport-utility vehicle struck a bank and rolled at least once, landing on the driver’s side.

Responding Bethel officers didn’t find Parker there, but later cited him on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident, Carr said.

In other police matters, Hannah Chapman, 17, of Bethel told police she rolled her 1993 Ford Explorer off North Road at 7:44 a.m. Monday after swerving to miss a flock of wild turkeys in the road.

“She tried to go right, lost control and over-corrected. Her father told her she should have just hit the turkeys,” Carr said.

Chapman, who complained of neck pain, was taken by Bethel Rescue to the Norway hospital for observation. The SUV was totaled.
