Two new members join Farmington Emblem
FARMINGTON – The September meeting of Farming Emblem Club 460 began with a potluck supper at 6 p.m. Farmington Elks Exalted Ruler Willie Deshaies spoke to members prior to their business meeting.
Two new members, Ann Rackliffe and Janet Mills, joined the club at the start of the meeting. There were 39 members present, 57 absent and two new for a total of 98.
Nancy Chase, Americanism chairwoman, read a story and got volunteers to perform a flag-folding ceremony on Sept. 17 at the Farmington Fair.
Community Service Chairwoman Claudette Merchant asked for volunteers to help with a club-sponsored blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
Members can turn in old computer cartridges to Renee Targett, who will send them to a company that reuses them and will pay a small amount to the club.
Shannon Smith is in charge of the harvest dance on Saturday, Oct. 21. A supper will precede the dance. Volunteers will help decorate the hall and prepare and serving the food. Tickets are on sale for $25 a couple. The music that night will be by a band called “The Houligans.”
Craft Fair Chairwoman Peggy Alexander reminded members that the first craft fair will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Elks Lodge and the second fair on Dec. 2, same time and place.
Donations will be made to the Otis Credit Union for the basket beano; to the Breast Cancer Research Healthy Coalition in the name of deceased club member, Janis Smith; to a girl from Mt. Blue High School to help with her trip to a cheering camp in Washington, D.C.; to someone in need of help with an overdue light bill; and to a family who recently lost their home in a fire.
The mystery gift was won by Joe Kinsey and the 50-50 raffle by Candy Clark.
President Christine Greenleaf gave a report on her trip to the Supreme Convention in Baltimore, Md.
The club will honor the new Supreme Emblem Club president, Barbara Colburn, and her marshal, Rhonda Auguston, when they visit Farmington Emblem Club 460 on Friday, Sept. 29. A social hour will be held at the Farmington Elks Lodge for members and guests from 4 to 5 p.m., with dinner to follow.
