This is a comment on a letter by Roger Knowlton of Poland in the Sun Journal on Sept. 21.
I believe selectmen set the tax rate based on what the voters approved at the town meeting to be spent on services by the town. Therefore, special groups can go to a town meeting and vote for monies to be spent on their project. Voters who don’t connect their voting at town meeting with the tax rate to be set by the selectmen and/or town administrator for the taxes to pay the bills are on their own “Cloud 9.”
How can the Taxpayer Bill of Rights apply if the taxpayers have already voted for services at the town meeting?
