ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A former Auburn , Maine, woman was shot and killed at her home in Tierra Verde this week and police say her husband was the shooter.

Stacey Plummer, 43, was found dead on Sunday when her adopted daughter came home and made the grim discovery.

Police said Plummer’s husband, 52-year-old Dermot Reid, shot Plummer before shooting himself in the head.

A .38-caliber handgun was found near Reid, police said. He was taken to a St. Petersburg hospital where he remained in critical condition.

Plummer was a divorce lawyer in Tierra Verde and sang with a band in her spare time. Police did not say what may have prompted the violence between Plummer and her husband. The couple had been married since December 2005, according to court records.

“They seemed to be very happy,” neighbor Tony December told the St. Petersburg Times. “Just like anyone else, no fighting, no screaming.”

According to her obituary, Plummer was born in Hartford, Conn., but lived in Auburn between 1968 and 1986. She attended Edward Little High School and later the University of Maine before transferring to Eckerd College in St. Petersburg.

Plummer was mother to three adopted children, two girls and a boy.

Police said it was her 12-year-old daughter, who had spent the night with relatives, who found Plummer and Reid Sunday inside their home.

Plummer’s closest relatives, including her parents and siblings, live in Florida, according to the obituary.

Funeral services are planned in St. Petersburg.

Meanwhile, police are continuing to investigate.
