Family day
NORWAY – All are welcome to the Family Day Celebration from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Otisfield Community School. The free event will feature comedian, ventriloquist and puppeteer Doug Twitchell of South Paris.
Noon to 4 p.m. there will be live music, games and snacks and from 4 to 4:30 p.m. Twitchell will perform a show geared for kids. Free community supper from 4:30 to 6 p.m. featuring barbecue food. Starting at 6:30, Twitchell will perform another show.
Chinese auction
OXFORD – The Resistance Ministries, a nonprofit youth ministry, will hold a Chinese auction fundraiser featuring new items on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Hosanna Church building, Schoolhouse Road.
Proceeds will benefit the special Christmas charity event, “A Christmas to Remember,” to be held Saturday, Dec. 2. Work is being done to have between 50 to 100 gifts to be given to children of families who may be going through a tough time this Christmas.
The doors open for auction ticket sales at 11 a.m. and the tickets will begin to be drawn at 12:30 p.m. All ticket buyers for the auction are guaranteed to win something. There will be a dollar table, grab bags and a 50/50 raffle. Food will be available. For more information, call the ministry office at 743-6982.
Harvest supper
PARIS – A harvest supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Deering Memorial Methodist Church. Menu will include ham, beans, casseroles and gingerbread with whipped cream. Adults is $7; children under 12, $3.
Music worship
PARIS – “Worship with Music” will be the focus of the morning service at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., South Paris, on Sunday, Oct. 1. Service begins at 10 a.m. Brunch will follow in Good Cheer Hall. The Sunday school will be in session under the direction of Renee Wales.
Knitting guild
PARIS – The Western Maine Knitting Guild will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the First Congregational Church, 17 East Main St. Speaker will be Dot Googins of Albany, who will show how yarn is spun on a spinning wheel. For more information, call Midge Leighton at 743-7677.
Baby shower
PARIS – A Community Baby Shower will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the South Paris Fire Station during National Make a Difference Day.
There will be recycled clothing, “gift raffles” for new items, and an Ounce of Prevention Shaken Baby Syndrome prevention class will be taught by Pamela Belisle, founder and director of Don’t Shake Jake. The program is offered to loved ones of children age prebirth to age 5.
People must be present 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to win. Recycled clothes will be available during that time and the shower will end at 1 p.m. and the clothes will be picked up. For more information, e-mail [email protected] or call 229-1113.
Medicare meeting
BETHEL – Medicare beneficiaries will need to re-enroll into a Medicare Part D drug plan between Nov. 15 and Dec. 31 for 2007 and they can make changes.
Leah Ustach, Medicare Part D specialist for SeniorsPlus, will present a program at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at the East Bethel Grange, 1865 Intervale Road, East Bethel.
