LAS VEGAS – Stanley Howaniec, 84, of Mesquite, Nev., passed away Monday, Sept. 11, in Las Vegas.

He was born in Lewiston, July 15, 1922, the son of Anthony and Tekla (Kolano) Howaniec.

On July 15, 1955, he married Paulette Lajoie in Berlin, N.H. He was educated in the Lewiston school system and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

In 1959, he settled in southern California, where he worked as a mail carrier until his retirement in 1984. He later moved to Mesquite, Nev., in 1999. He loved playing bingo and his kind and gentle personality will be missed.

Survivors include his wife, Paulette of Mesquite; two daughters, Cheryl (Melvin) Brothers of Reseda, Calif., and Ella (Mark) Olson of Pagoda Springs, Colo.; one grandchild, Tim; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Joseph of Punta Gorda, Fla., and John of Lewiston.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Frank; and his sister, Jennie.

Graveyard services were held Sept. 14 at the St. George City Cemetery.
