LEWISTON – Grimmel’s Gas-Up Junior Giants defeated Northeast Athletics Redskins 15-7 Sunday to clinch the top seed for the playoffs in the Lewiston Area Football League for Youth (FLY).

The unbeaten Giants (5-0) got touchdowns from Quintarian Brown on a 35-yard scamper, and Kyle Lemelin on a kick return. Zach Abisalih sparkled defensively. Dante Brooks tallied the lone TD for the ‘Skins (3-2).

In the other Junior Division contest, Don Morin’s Photo Lions (2-3) beat the winless Bagels-N-Things Steelers.

In the Senior Division, the Compass Coin Lions remained unbeaten a fifth game with a 41-0 victory over Aaron’s Sales & Lease Steelers.

The Lisbon Street Getty Mart Senior Redskins ran their record to 4-1 with a hard-fought 6-0 win over the Twins Variety Giants.

Stephen Hinkley, who rushed for 63 yards, scored the game’s only TD on a 2-yard quarterback sneak in the third quarter, Tyler Haskell helped the ‘Skins chew up the clock with a number of big runs behind the blocking of Brent Freve and Jacob Lajoie.

Defensively, Mickey Barboza and Casey Thurlow provided constant pressure on the Giants, with help from John Goulet, Freve and George Hopkins. Jacob Lajoie, Thurlow and Hinkley each registered a quarterback sack. Kevin St. Pierre sealed the victory with a leaping interception.

Having a fine game for the Giants were Joshua Thomas, Nathan Berube and Brandon Perron.
