LEWISTON – Robert L. Hopkins, 80, of Lewiston, died Saturday evening, Sept. 30, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Lewiston on May 24, 1926, the son of John and Dora (Labossiere) Hopkins.

He attended Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1944. He was an U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, having served during World War II.

He married his former wife, Christine Violette, on Dec. 30, 1950.

In 1952, he was co-owner of the Royal Flooring Co., which he owned and worked until his retirement.

He was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Church. He enjoyed bowling, tennis and golf, and was a member of Prospect Hill Golf Course in Auburn, where he played on the Holy Family Golf League. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV and was an avid Red Sox fan.

He is survived by his former wife, Christine Hopkins, of Lewiston; his daughter, Diane Berube, of Litchfield; his sons and their spouses, David and Janet of Leeds, George and Dawna, and Robert R. and Anne, all of Lewiston; his 11 grandchildren, Eric, Chad, Becky, Krista, Matthew, David Michael, Marshall, Allison, and Keith Hopkins, and Amanda and Curt Berube; his two great grandsons, Austin and Tiger Hopkins; his brother, George, and his wife, Dot, of Lewiston; his sisters, Helen Briggs of Rochester, N.Y., Betty Foss of Largo, Fla., and Marjorie Lizotte and her husband, Albin, of Auburn; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brother John; and by his son, Leonard, who died in 1993.
