Buffalo Bills right guard Chris Villarrial has a high ankle sprain that occurred in Buffalo’s 17-12 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Coach Dick Jauron did not have an update on Villarrial’s status following Monday’s walk-through practice. The typical recovery time for such an injury is about three weeks.

Colts

It’s time for the Indianapolis Colts to expect surprises. Onside kicks, fourth-down attempts, even crazier plays like the New York Jets’ desperation finale Sunday all could be part of an opponents’ typical game plan now, and coach Tony Dungy figures his players had better be prepared for anything deemed unconventional.

“I think (Jets coach) Eric Mangini said it very well after the game,” Dungy said Monday. “He said ‘When you go against the Colts, you have to score a lot of points, so you have to be aggressive.”‘

Bears

It took a while, but Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith eventually was able to identify a flaw in the team’s 37-6 drubbing of the Seattle Seahawks.

“Devin Hester had a few problems returning punts,” Smith said Monday, a day after the Bears improved to 4-0 for the first time since 1991.

And that was Smith’s confirmation that the Bears have shown very few flaws overall in compiling the best record in the NFC.

Defensively, they have been dominant. The 29 points they’ve allowed through four games is better even than their fabled 1985 defense.

Rams

Scott Linehan, who pleaded patience when the St. Louis offense stumbled the first few weeks of the season, said he isn’t sure a 41-point day against the Lions means the growing pains are over, and he doesn’t really care as long as the bottom line is a win.

“I think it’s fun to win,” the Rams coach said. “If you win by six field goals to whatever or six touchdowns, whatever you’ve got to do that day to win. But it’s only one game. You’ve got to do it every week in this league.”
