October classes

PARIS – The following classes are beginning this week at Oxford Hills Adult Education: Tuesday, Oct. 3, find out about becoming a literacy volunteer and helping an adult learn to read; Wednesday, Oct. 4, business planning workshop led by SCORE, scrapbooking class; Thursday, Oct. 5, learn about investing in real estate.

Club trip

PARIS – The Twin Town Nature Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, in the parking lot at the bowling alley, Route 26, and car pool to view foliage enroute to Coos Canyon, Height of Land and Oquossoc. Weight Watchers

NORWAY – Sign-up for Weight Watchers will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at the cafeteria at Stephens Memorial Hospital. For more information, contact Kathy Hansen at 892-3004.

Church fair

OXFORD – The Oxford Congregational Church will hold a craft fair, luncheon and flea market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Oct. 7.

Library speaker

BRYANT POND – Ingrid Twitchell of Woodstock will be the guest speaker at the Whitman Memorial Library at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12. Mrs. Twitchell will talk about raising sheep and the projects she does using the wool. The program is open to the public free, and light refreshments will be served.

AARP meeting

PARIS – The Oxford Hills Chapter, AARP, will meet Monday, Oct. 9, at the First Congregational Church, East Main Street, South Paris. Lunch will be at noon, and reservations are required by calling Betty Hayes at 743-6761 by noon Friday, Oct. 6.

Menu will be ham and cheese quiche, vegetable and dessert at a cost of $ 6.50. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. followed by a speaker, Harry True, who will talk about the TABOR bill.

McLaughlin events

PARIS – The McLaughlin Garden Gift Shop has been moved into the house. The last Weed and Feed of the season will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 21. Those who help in the garden will get free lunch. Preregistration is requested.

The sixth annual Witches’ Brew High Tea, with seatings at 3 and 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, in the newly restored interior of the McLaughlin House. Attend in costume. Reservations are required. Call 743-8820 to make arrangements. Cost is $15 for grown ghouls, $8 for goblins under 12.

Foodless sale

GREENWOOD – Tri-Town Rescue Auxiliary is sponsoring a foodless food sale, with proceeds to be used to purchase equipment for emergency vehicles. Those who don’t want to bake can donate whatever they think it would cost to bake an item.

People can send contribution to Tri-Town Rescue Auxiliary, c/o Wayne and Anita Hakala, 44 Hayes Hill Road, Greenwood ME 04255. Deadline to send donations is Friday, Oct. 20.

Senior social

PARIS – Every Monday from noon to 3 p.m. beginning Oct. 9 a senior social will be held at the First Baptist Church on Paris Hill for anyone who is retired. The first Monday of every month there will be a potluck lunch. There will be games, snacks, activities and companionship. For more information, call Jean at 743-8661 or 743-8675.

Society speaker

GREENWOOD – A Greenwood Historical Society meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the historical building, Main Street. John Davis will present a program on “The Caboose.” Everyone is welcome.
