Apple festival
FARMINGTON – The third annual Apple Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Fairbanks Meetinghouse, sponsored by the Fairbanks School Neighborhood Association.
There will be hand-pressed apple cider and fresh apple treats, and artisans and crafters doing demonstrations. There will also be an apple pie-baking contest (pies must be entered by 11 a.m.), as well as a 50/50 raffle. Proceeds will benefit the Fairbanks School Meetinghouse project. Demonstrators will include: solar art glass, Joshua Demello; apple pressing, Andrew Pratt, John and Tom Hagerstrom; hooked rugs, Faye Shaw; and knitting, Allison Trussle.
Farmer’s market
WELD – A Fall Farmer’s Market to benefit the Weld Volunteer Fire Dept. and EMT Unit will be held starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the fire station.
If raining, the event will be held in the Old Town Hall, featuring local produce and products. Lunch will feature barbecued organic chicken and gyros by Chef Brian Gastin of the Kawanhee Inn.
A raffle for a pine entertainment center crafted by Buddy Vining and a fresh turkey from King Farms will be drawn at noon.
A jack-o-lantern contest for children 14 and under will be held, with $25 cash prize in each category of “scariest” and “happiest” pumpkin. Winners will be announced at noon.
There will be a library book sale and Girl Scout bake sale as well.
Lunch menus
FARMINGTON – SAD 9 lunch menus are announced for the week of Oct. 2. A container of milk is served with meals. Menus are subject to change without notice.
Tuesday: Chicken patty sandwich, potato wedges, peas, pineapple tidbits.
Wednesday: Pigs in a blanket, mashed potato, long leaf spinach, pears or Jell-o.
Thursday: Meatball hoagie, potato wedges, green beans, fruit.
Friday: Workshop, no school.
Rummage sale
RANGELEY – The annual fall rummage sale of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church Women will be held in the Undercroft, Main Street, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, and 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 14.
For the last half hour of the sale on Saturday shoppers will be given bags to fill for $1. There will be bargains in jackets, coats, slacks and sweaters in men’s and women’s wear. Household items and boutique specials will also be available. All proceeds will go for church needs and community outreach.
Beedy reunion
KINGFIELD – The 59th annual Beedy reunion for the descendants of Aaron and Violette Dunham Beedy will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, at Webster Hall.
Everyone should bring a dish for the potluck dinner at noon, as well as an item for the auction. Items for the family scrapbook are also needed. The theme is “Halloween,” and costumes are welcome. There may be a prize.
The officers for the 59th reunion are: president, Cara Smith; vice president, Doug Gordon; secretary, Holland Corson; treasurer, Adelia Meyer; historian, Paula Enman; and publicity, Sharon Boyce, Faith Schneider and Holland Corson.
Michaud hours
JAY – Congressman Michael Michaud has announced community office hours from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Jay Town Office.
Constituent Service Representative Matt Dubois will be available for assistance with a problem with a federal agency or to hear concerns about a particular issue before Congress.
