AUBURN – Elsie W. (Blackburne) Haynes, 90, formerly of Columbia and Windsor, Conn., died Sunday, Oct. 1.
She was born Dec. 15, 1915, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late Willard L. Blackburne and Anna B. Henrechon, also her stepfather Arthur E. Henrechon.
In her younger years she was involved in the Girl Scouts and 4-H as a leader.
During World War II, she belonged to the Red Cross Motor Corps of Windsor, Conn., and worked thousands of hours out of Bradley Field, Windsor Locks, Conn., with the soldiers.
She was on the original Windsor Police Force as the first policewoman of the town of Windsor.
She attended the Congregational Church of both Columbia and Windsor, the Baptist Church in West Paris, where she resided in the summer, and the Methodist Church of Venice Fla., where she resided in the winter.
She retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford, Conn., in 1970.
Her activities were many. She was a member of the Windsor Grange, and the West Paris Grange, West Paris Senior Citizens group, the Red Hat Socialites of Sandalwood, Venice, Fla., and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 0151 of West Paris.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a Past Royal Matron of Charity Court of the Amaranth, Windsor Locks from 1955 to 1964, a Past Grand Royal Matron of the Grand Court of the Order of the Amaranth from 1970 to 1971, and Past Supreme Royal Matron of Order of the Amaranth. She was a member of abuse organizations for over 60 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia A. H. Breame and her husband, Fred, of Woodstock; two sons, Robert B. Haynes and his wife, Judith, from Arizona and California, Donald A. Haynes and his companion, Polly, of New Hampshire; grandchildren, Lori-Ann Annati and her husband Rick, Sandra Caliri and her husband, Robert, Larry Lane and his wife, Maureen, Karey H. Wells and her husband, Mike, Michael Haynes and his wife, Amanda, and Shannon Haynes and her husband, Aron D’Advila; great grandchildren, Ethen Annati, Cole Annati, Grant Annati, Tristen Annati, Chase Wells, and his new baby sister, Storme Haynes, Miake Haynes, Koa Haynes and Melissa Perkins; and her friend, Maureen Haynes; two sisters, Dorothy B. Seam of Windsor and Anna H. King of New Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Laurence A. Haynes, who died in 1991; a sister, Mildred B. Davis; and also a niece, Dorothy Yeramian.
