Auburn – An outage in the Court Street area left 1,538 Central Maine Power Co. customers without electricity for nearly an hour Monday afternoon.
Court, Lake, Spring and High streets and a portion of Minot Avenue were the major areas affected by the outage, according to a CMP spokesman.
The outage occurred at 12:31 p.m. after a truck appeared to clip a wire. Power was restored at 1:25 p.m. after repairs were made.
An 18-wheeler nicked a utility pole in front of The Barn on Minot Avenue, according to Capt. Tim Allen of the Auburn Fire Department. A support wire snapped and popped up onto the power wires causing the circuit breaker to trip. Originally it was thought that the transformer blew, but the loud noise, like a shotgun, was the breaker tripping and the smoke was from insulation overheating on the support wire, Allen said.
“I don’t know if the guy even knew he hit the pole,” Allen said.
