BANGOR – Samantha Homer tallied an unassisted goal with 30 seconds remaining in regulation to lift Husson College to a 2-1 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in women’s North Atlantic Conference soccer play.

Shelby Pickering opened the scoring for Husson (7-3-1) in the first half assisted by Shaina Goode. Amber Murphy scored the lone score for the Beavers (6-5).

Husson goalie Leah Drew stopped eight shots while Alix Raymond and Melissa Demerchant each turned away two for Farmington.

Colby 2, St. Joseph’s 1

STANDISH – Katie McCabe took a cross from Libba Cox and drilled it into the net to lift Colby to a 2-1 victory over St. Joseph’s in more collegiate women’s soccer action Wednesday. Laura Williamson also scored for the Mules (6-0-2) to round out the final tally. Liza Benson made four saves in net to notch the win.

The Monks’ (6-4) lone goal came from Michelle Crisp with an assist from Megan Willette. Monica Cuda turned aside seven shots in net for St. Joe’s.

Field hockey

UMF 1, Colby 0

FARMINGTON – Amanda fortin scored at the 10:12 mark and the University of Maine at Farmington defense limited Colby to just four shots as the Beavers blasted their way to a 1-0 win in field hockey action Wednesday.

Fortin scored an unassisted goal following a scuffle in front of the Mule’s goal cage. From there, the Beavers’ (6-1) took charge, controlling play behind Kaeleigh Barker’s third-straight shutout victory in goal.

Bates 2, Husson 1

BANGOR – Allison Marshall assisted on both goals as Bates fought their way to a 2-1 victory over Husson in field hockey action Wednesday.

Marshall found Morgan Maciewicz in front of the net, and Maciewicz slid the ball past Husson (4-4) goalie Kelly Bocchino with less than five minutes to play for he game winning goal.

Bobcat (4-2) goalie Sarah Sprague helped set up the win with a great save late in the second half. Bocchino was also solid in net, making 12 saves on 19 shots for Husson.

Men’s Soccer

RALEIGH, NC-Alex Sanchez scored on a 1st half penalty kick for the lone score as North Carolina State downed the University of Maine 1-0.

Christopher Widman stopped 2 shots for the Wolfpack (4-6-1). Giacomo Brunino and Ben Piotrowski each had a pair of saves for the Black Bears (0-12).

Husson 2, UMF 1

FARMINGTON – Hiroshi Iwabuchi scored off a corner kick at the 98:21 mark to snap a 1-1 tie and lift Husson to a 2-1 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in men’s soccer action Wednesday.

Nathan Carter initiated the scoring in the sixth minute, converting a pass from Iwabuchi to give the Braves (9-1-1) an early 1-0 lead.

The Beavers (3-5-2) tied the game at the 58:21 mark when Alec Brown scored off a feed from Nate Ghelli.
