As a new driver, I have noticed that far too many people speed. I drive the speed limit because I don’t want to lose my permit. As I observe the speed limit, other drivers pass me when it is unsafe, or tailgate and honk at me.
People really need to slow down.
A simple way to avoid the need to speed is to leave earlier, so people aren’t late and don’t have to rush. The faster people drive, the more risk they put themselves and others in. According to The Washington Post, 70 percent of all drivers in the U.S. speed, and 30 percent of all car accidents are caused by speeding.
When people drive fast, their reaction time is too slow, causing them to have to slam on the brakes when it is too late.
As a new driver, I would appreciate it if more people paid attention to the speed they’re going. That would make driving safer for everyone.
