This is the second time in two years we have the chance to vote to decrease Maine’s tax burden. If the Taxpayer Bill of Rights does not pass, I’m afraid government spending will continue to soar and taxes will continue to go up with the only limit being the sky.
That’s a shame, because Maine’s economy in 2005 had negative growth, and Maine already has the highest taxes in the country. How long can that continue?
Last week, a business I have done business with for 20 years closed. It joined a growing list. It’s no wonder our best and brightest students leave Maine. It’s no wonder entrepreneurs don’t move their small businesses to Maine. The governor and other Democrats give us gimmicks, but the real problem is that they cannot say no to spending.
The more they spend, the more taxes will go up, and taxes are killing our economy. Voters need to impose limits on spending because the politicians have proven they cannot limit themselves.
