FALMOUTH – Laura Whitney Ullman, 47, died at home in Falmouth, surrounded by her husband, two children, and friends on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006. She had battled a malignant brain tumor since 2002.

She was born in West Chester, Penn.

She was a registered nurse and received her RN degree from Delaware Technical Community College in Newark, Del., in 1990. While living in Delaware she worked at the Medical Center of Delaware as an LPN from 1983 to 1985, the Duling Kurtz House restaurant as beverage manager from 1985 to 1989, and as an RN at Sacred Heart Medical Center Maternity/Nursery in Chester, Penn,, from 1989 until she married in 1993.

She moved with her husband and two children to Lewiston in 1995 and lived in Falmouth for the past nine years.

She was active at Temple Beth El in Portland as a volunteer and also served on their board.

She is remembered by those she worked with as spirited, tenacious, willing to go out of her way to do anything to help another, fiercely dedicated to her family, and adored by everyone she met.

She was often seen cooking at fundraising dinners, doing the work of 10 people. Even after her diagnosis and several operations, she still contributed her time to volunteer events. She refused to succumb to her cancer without a fight and was an inspiration to other patients around the world afflicted with the same disorder. Her website received more than 31,000 hits by concerned friends and well-wishers.

She is survived by her husband, Joe; sons, Nathan and Noah; and her beloved Ragdoll cat, Mittens.
