STRONG – Maine State Police are investigating the destruction of seven mailboxes on the West Freeman Road in Strong and in Freeman Township. The mailboxes were wrecked between 6 p.m. Thursday and dawn Friday, police said.
It appears a vehicle went down the road and turned around at Torey Hill Road in Freeman Township and went back down the road with someone leaning out the passenger side hitting the mailboxes on both sides of the road with a bat, Maine State Trooper Scott Nichols said Friday.
Destroying a mailbox is a federal offense, he said.
He estimated the damage to the boxes at $150.
Nichols is asking anyone with information about the vandalism to phone him through the state police dispatch at 1-800-452-4664.
