In his column Oct. 5, Rich Lowry writes that stories in the media about the prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba smear the United States. When did the search for truth and justice become subversion in America?

The same media that allows his openly biased views reports openly contrary views.

Looking at a spectrum of colors, the conservatives see only the colors they want to see. That is how this country got into the mess it is in in Iraq right now. No dissenting views were heeded as the country rushed to war.

I firmly believe that dissent, as well as freedom of the press, is the lifeblood of a free society.

Those who take away our freedom for “security purposes,” and stifle public dissidence, are the enemies of our country and, maybe, most other free societies as well.

That’s the truth.
