LEWISTON – Senior Kim Alexander scored the game-tying and game-winning goals as Bates notched a 2-1 come-from-behind triumph over previously undefeated Williams College in NESCAC women’s soccer action Saturday.

The Ephs (7-1-1) took the early lead as first-year Brianna Wolfson put the ball away for a goal in the fifth minute.

But with six minutes left in the half, first-year Bobcats’ player Jen Marino delivered a long pass from the left wing to Alexander in the middle. A defender on Alexander stumbled, and the senior broke down the field, shooting inside the far corner and past Williams senior goalie Sarah Ginsburg.

Southern Maine 2, Plymouth State 0

GORHAM – Junior goalkeeper Meghan Ibar posted eight saves to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 2-0 victory over Plymouth State in LEC women’s soccer action Saturday.

Senior forward Julia Cyr scored the first goal in the 30th minute as she booted a shot past Panther (4-5-1) freshman goalkeeper Morgan McQuaide from just inside the 18 yard marker. Gabrielle Cyr also scored for the Huskies (4-7-0).

Wesleyan 1, Colby 0

WATERVILLE – Lauren Ogden scored four minutes into the game and it stood as Wesleyan defeated Colby College 1-0 in NESCAC action. Giving the White Mules their first defeat of the season.

Ogden knocked in a rebound from Marissa Trevisan for the lone goal for the Cardinals. Liza Benson made 6 saves for Cobly (6-1-2)

Tufts 2, Bowdoin 1

BRUNSWICK – Lauren Fedore put a shot into the right corner of the goal with 20 minutes left in the game to lift Tufts to a 2-1 victory over Bowdoin in women’s occer action Saturday.

Ivy Blackmore gave the Polard Bears (2-5-2) a 1-0 lead, but Rebecca Abbott tied the game for the Jumbos (4-2-2).

Field Hockey

USM 3, Western Connecticut 2

DANBURY, Conn. – Alyssa Kraus scored the game-winning goal late in the second half to bring back USM to a 3-2 victory over Western Connecticut.

After falling behind 2-1 at halftime, USM pressured the Western Connecticut defense and Cristina Corson pushed across a goal with an unassisted strike past Colonials keeper Ashley Quinn to even the score.

Caitlin Albert also tallied a goal for the Huskies (7-6), winning their fourth straight game. Quinn stopped 14 shots for Western Connecticut (1-9) while freshman keeper Allie Hill turned away 8 for the Huskies.

Colby 3, Wesleyan 2 (2OT)

WATERVILLE – Chris Maloney scored in the second overtime and Jamie Enos made 21 saves in goal as Colby pulled out a 3-2 win over Wesleyan University in NESCAC field hockey action Saturday.

The Mules (2-5) opened up a 2-0 lead on Wesleyan, only to see the Cardinals (4-5) fight back with two goals in the final 13 minutes of regulation.

Gordon 3, UNE 2

WENHAM, Mass. – Junior defender Kristen Helgesen scored the game-winning goal and added two assists as Gordon College defeated the University of New England 3-2 in field hockey action Saturday.

Taryn Flagg and Lisa Baillargeon scored for the Nor’easters (5-3), who held a 1-0 lead early in the second half. The Fighting Scots (6-6) responded with three unanswered.

UMF 2, Castleton State 0

CASTLETON, Vt – Amanda Poulin scored a pair of goals and Kaeleigh Barker recored seven saves in a 2-0 victory over Castleton State.

Poulin’s goals both came in the first half with an assist from Nicole Lyons. Barker recorded her fifth shutout of the season for the Beavers who remained unbeaten in the North Atlantic Conference (7-1, 5-0).

Williams College 5, Bates 1

LEWISTON – Ranked fifth nationally, Williams college tallied three unanswered second half goals to seal a 5-1 victory over Bates. Abby Childs scored the lone goal for the Bobcats (4-3). Sarah Sprague turned away eight shots for Bates while Emily Wasserman stopped one for the Ephs (9-0)
