New from Nabisco are mini-Newtons (fig or strawberry). The box contains six bags of eight mini-Newtons each.

How many people think the mini-Newtons cost no more than the regular Newtons?

Oh, come on!

The total weight of the six pouches is 8.04 ounces, and the box sells for the same price as a 16-ounce package of regular Newtons, so the minis cost almost exactly twice as much per ounce as the regulars.

Mr. Tidbit’s analysis of such developments usually stops there (different size or shape; no real difference, twice the price), but in the case of Newtons, which dry out more rapidly than most cookies when exposed to air, there is an advantage in the individual-serving bags. But it’s not worth double the price. Instead, when you open the package of full-size Newtons, pour them into a resealable bag.
