DIXFIELD – Bettina Martin was elected chairwoman of the Board of Selectmen at the Monday’s meeting. Selectman Brad Dyer was chosen vice-chairman.
Town Manager Jeff Jacobson said both were elected unanimously by the remaining selectmen. A new chairman and vice-chairman were needed because of former Selectman Chairman Tony Carter’s resignation last week. Martin had served as vice-chairwoman.
In other matters on Monday, Jacobson said a special meeting was set for 6 p.m. on Oct. 16 to discuss goals for the public works department with director Tim Hanson.
A similar goal-setting session was held last week with the Dixfield Police Department. At that time, Jacobson said a major goal was to increase the presence of police officers in and around SAD 21’s schools to try to build relationships with youngsters at an earlier age. He said Drug Abuse Resistance Education classes will soon start, led by officer Eric Bernier.
Jacobson said similar goal-setting sessions will be set with the fire department, library and town office employees.
Also on Oct. 16, Jacobson said the board will meet in closed session to evaluate his work, then possibly set his contract length and salary in open session.
