BIDDEFORD – Claire Cutting scored three goals and added an assist to lead Bowdoin to a 6-0 rout over the University of New England in women’s soccer action Tuesday.

Katie Zeigler got the Polar Bears (3-5-2) on the board early, scoring her team-leading fourth and fifth goals in the 18th and 19th minute. Cutting capped off first-half scoring by starting her hat trick with a tally in the 30th minute.

In the second frame, Cutting sandwiched scored around a goal by Alison Chase to give Bowdoin its final 6-0 margin. Katherine Popoff and Kelly Thomas combined for four saves in net to preserve the shutout.

Men’s soccer
UMass-Boston 5, St. Joe’s 4

BOSTON, Mass. – Romeo Zeqo netted a pair of goals to lead the University of Massachusetts at Boston to a narrow 5-4 victory over St. Joseph’s in men’s soccer action.

John DiPietro, Guilherme Goncalves and Maynor Sanchez also tallied for the Beacons (12-7-0) to complete the scoring. Cory Smith and Greg Cavanaugh combined for five saves in net to notch the win.

The Monks (5-6-0) received a pair of goals from Auburn native David Rosquete, while single tallies by Eamonn Harrigan and Doug MacCallum rounded out the final tally.
