FRYEBURG – The annual cleanup and the building of additional covered firing points, as well as preparation for the fall hunter safety course and sighting of hunting rifles, will take place Saturday, Oct. 14, and possibly carry over to Sunday, Oct. 15, at the Fryeburg Fish and Game Association Inc. range.

The range, originally built in 1975 by members of the newly formed Fryeburg Fish and Game Association, is used by members, the public, local police departments and the military.

It has not had serious improvements in many years, and this year, with a $5,000 grant from the National Rifle Association, the covered firing points will be expanded and the backstops improved.

Arrangements have been made with J&K Landscaping, which will bring in the heavy equipment necessary to improve the backstops and level the rough spots down range. Western Maine Nursery will provide the fill material.

Also in the plan is the construction of a larger concrete pad at the firing points and construction of an extended shelter over them. Generators and compressors will be on hand to power nail guns and saws that will be needed for the construction. Brush along paths and the range alleys needs to be trimmed.

Members and guests are invited to attend the work party and have their names inscribed and their images inserted in the club records that will memorialize reconstruction of the range.

President Jim Holt asks members and guests to bring their own tools. For more information, write the association at POB 525, Fryeburg, ME 04037.
