Teen Scrabble

Sacrament

AUBURN – The Sacrament of the Anointing will be given at Sacred Heart Church at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. The church is wheelchair accessible.

Light refreshments will be served afterward downstairs in the parish hall. An elevator at the back of the church is available to reach the hall. Parishioners of other parishes will be welcome. The church is located at the corner of Minot and Western avenues at the rotary.

Seniors speaker

LEWISTON – The Holy Cross Seniors will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, in the church hall. All seniors of the area are invited. A presentation on osteoporosis and arthritis will be given by Dr. Kathy Boulet-Steele, chiropractor. A social will follow and a light lunch will be served. Those wishing to pay their dues may do so before the meeting.

Lodge roll call

AUBURN – Liberty Rebekah Lodge 94 will meet Monday, Oct. 16, at the Grand Lodge office meeting room, 80 Caron Lane. Dessert will be served at 6 p.m. by Doreen Locke, noble grand; Diane Treacy, vice grand; Nancy Windle, conductor; and John Bolduc, color bearer.

The theme of the meeting will be “Halloween.” During the meeting, which will begin at 7 p.m., roll call and the obligation will take place. Members are asked to respond to roll call with a reading, poem, joke or musical number that will fit the Halloween theme and to wear something black and orange if possible.

Cynthia Maxwell, financial secretary, will conduct the roll call and Treacy will lead the members with the obligation.

Cote to speak

POLAND – Paul Cote, owner of the Trading Post in Oxford, will be the speaker for the Poland Historical Society meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18. He will talk about his collection of antique wooden products, including sleds and snowshoes.

The meeting will be at the Old Schoolhouse next to the Poland Town Office, Route 26. The public is invited. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.

Sodality meeting

LEWISTON – The Holy Family Ladies of St Ann Sodality will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, in Rectory Rooms 1 and 2.

A guest speaker from the Maine Family Credit Union will talk on fraud and identity theft. Refreshments will served by Flo Marquis and Jackie Veilleux.

Seniors luncheon

AUBURN – First Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Hasty Community Center. After the meeting there will be a Halloween luncheon and bingo. Tickets will be on sale for Nov. 15 Thanksgiving luncheon at Martindale; cost $6.

The club met on Oct. 4 with President Carolyn Chapman presiding. There were 75 present. Attendance winners were Barbara Hinkley and Marilyn Redmun; pot of gold, Maxine Sidelinger, Mary Tassinari and Lucien Marcoux. Birthdays were acknowledged.

Club 50 speaker

LEWISTON – Those interested can learn how to avoid becoming a victim of identity theft during a presentation by Lori Manson of Five County Credit Union from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, in the Club 50 Room next to Campus Cuisine at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. The presentation is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Register by calling 753-5467. The deadline to register is Monday, Oct. 16.

OES visitation

LISBON FALLS – Pioneer Chapter 11, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Lisbon Falls Masonic Hall, Route 196. Rebecca S. Bibber, associate grand matron, will conduct the official visitation. Refreshments will follow the meeting.

Variety show

POLAND – Scout Andrew Cotterly and Boy Scout Troop 125 of Poland will hold a variety show to benefit the Poland Community Church Food Bank at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, in the Poland Regional High School auditorium. Admission will be the donation of nonperishable food items, which will be delivered to the food bank.

The show will consist of music, dance, comedy and a special preview of Poland Regional High School’s production, “Godspell.” The event is an Eagle Scout Community Service Project, planned by Cotterly. For more information, contact Andrew Cotterly at 998-2282.

Class for dads

LEWISTON – Advocates for Children will offer a six-week nurturing father’s program from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 1 to Dec. 6. The class is geared for dads, fathers-to-be, step dads, divorced dads, granddads, or any dads who want to be a great dad.

Participants will learn about fathering from A-to-Z and will discuss ideas about fathering with other men. The facilitator will be Mike Webber, father and guidance counselor.

The program will be offered free at Advocates for Children, B Street Community Center, 57 Birch St., Suite 204.

Seniors meet

SABATTUS – The Sabattus Senior Citizens had a New England boiled dinner and meeting recently, attended by 113 members. Beano was played after the meeting.

The Thursday, Nov. 2, meeting will feature turkey with all the fixings, desserts and beverages by Betty Dutil and crew. Those who would like to sign up should call Bob at 783-6955.

Irene and Ed Breton are no longer trip coodinators, and new coordinator Jean Doyon was introduced. She has a trip to Indian Head in New Hampshire planned for $56. For more information, call her at 784-5264.
