Afternoon speaker
MEXICO – The Oxford County Education Association-Retired will meet Friday, Oct. 20, at the Mexico Congregational Church. The social period will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the business meeting will be at 11. The afternoon speaker will be Sandra Crehore, president of MEA-R.
The scholarship fundraiser will be an apple pie sale to members and the public. Call a local OCEA-R member to reserve a pie. Members or guests not in a telephone tree should call 674-2267 or 74-4024 to reserve a dinner.
Masonic event
WEST PARIS – Granite Lodge, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, will hold an open house from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, on Main Street across from the public library. The public is invited to attend to learn what the fraternity offers to the community.
Yard sale
BETHEL – The Greenstock Snowsports Snowmobile Club will hold its fourth annual yard sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, in the parking lot of Lowell’s Saw Shop, Route 26, across the street from Telstar Regional High School.
Candidates’ night
PARIS – The Paris Public Library will host a candidates’ night at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, for Senate District 13 and Representative District 94. Tentatively scheduled to appear are Senate contenders Skip Foley, Dave Hastings and Marge Medd. Also planning to attend are Bruce Hanley and Terry Hayes, both seeking the House seat.
The candidates will make brief presentations, then will entertain questions from the moderator and the audience. Individuals will have an opportunity to solicit answers from the candidates informally, too. Light refreshments will be served. Chinese auction
NORWAY – The Women’s Fellowship of the Second Congregational Church has been planning their first Chinese auction to be held Saturday, Oct. 21. There will be baskets of handmade items, dolls, gift certificates, housewares, toys and food.
The doors will open at 2 p.m. and the auction will start at 4:30 p.m. There will also be American chop suey, beans and hot dogs, beverages and some treats for sale during the event.
There will be $5, $10 and $20 envelopes as well as $1 items and a 50/50 raffle. Proceeds will help the Women’s Fellowship with their missions, including assisting with the youth group on their mission trip to Louisiana, the Sea Coast Mission of Maine, Gifts of the Heart around the world and the purchase of music for the choir.
The group welcomes any women who would like to join. For more information about the event, contact the church office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at 743-2290.
Harvest supper
OXFORD – The Rock-O-Dundee Rider’s Snowmobile Club will have a public harvest supper from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the clubhouse, Paine Road, East Oxford. The menu will include mashed potato, ham, veggies, rolls, homemade pies and a beverage. The price will be $6.50 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under.
Auxiliary auction
BUCKFIELD – The Sumner Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will hold a Chinese auction Saturday, Oct. 21, at Buckfield High School. Viewing will begin at 11 a.m. and the auction will start at 1 p.m. There will be a 50/50 drawing and refreshments will be on sale.
Rummage sale
NORWAY – A rummage sale will be held by the Youth Ministry of St. Catherine’s Church from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, in the parish hall, 32 Paris St. There will be a selection of winter clothing, and white elephant items will be available. The monies earned will be used for retreats and charities for young people.
Cemetery meet
OTISFIELD – The Elmwood Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church, Rayville Road.
