HENNIKER, N.H. (AP) -Police are looking for a man who attacked a woman who gave him a ride after he said his car had broken down.

The 27-year-old woman suffered cuts and scrapes on her face and neck, but was able to fight back and get away.

Police Chief Tim Russell said the woman saw a stranger walking along the side of the road Tuesday afternoon. He told her his car had broken down, so she offered to drive him to the car and let him use her cell phone. When they arrived, police say the man got out, pretended to make a call and said help was on the way.

As the woman returned to her car, the man grabbed her around her neck from behind with a rope. She fought him off.

Police are looking for a small gray car similar to a Honda Accord with primer paint and New Hampshire license plates.
