ORONO – Laura Harper netted a pair of goals to give Maine a 2-0 victory over the University of New York at Albany in a women’s soccer matchup Thurday.
Kim Stephenson contributed for the Black Bears (11-2-1) with an assist. Harper tallied both goals in the first half, and Albany’s offense remained cold in the second frame.
Jasmine Phillips needed only two saves in net to record the shutout.
UNE 2, Regis 1
WESTON, Mass. – Jill Gustafson scored two first-half goals and the University of New England was able to hang on to a 2-1 victory over Regis College.
Gustafson got the Nor’easters (3-7-2) on the board early, drilling home a pass from Danielle laTerra in the fourth minute. That same combination gave the visitors a 2-0 advantage in the 27th minute. LaTerra found Gustafson with a through ball between two Regis defenders, and the would-be game-winner was slotted past Regis keeper Beth Kaleta.
Men’s soccer
Colby 4, St. Joseph’s 2
WATERVILLE – Todd Boertzel scored the game-winning goal with 15:40 left in the second half to lift Colby to a 4-2 victory over St. Joseph’s in men’s soccer action Thursday.
Boertzel scored the winning goal with an assist from Duy Lyford after the Monks (5-7) had come back twice to tie the contest.
Logan King got an insurance goal off an assist from JoseLuis Mendoza with 10:24 left.
Jim Pilgrim openeed the scoring for the Mules (3-4-2) just 5:02 into the game with assists from Lucas Bennett and Lyford.
