LEWISTON – The two undefeated teams advanced to the finals in their respective divisions of the Lewiston Football League for Youth (FLY) playoffs Sunday.

Compass Coin Lions won their 7th straight game in the Senior Division, beating No. 4 Bagels ‘n Things Steelers 45-0. Scoring touchdowns for the No. 1 Lions were Matt Therrien, Joe McKinnon, Josh Passalaqua, Alec Collins and Spencer Martin. The latter hauled in a 30-yard pass from Chris Madden. Paul Fernal and Derrick Larrabee had a fine game for the Steelers (0-7).

The No. 2 Lisbon Street Getty Mart Senior Redskins (5-2) advanced to the championship game by blanking No. 3 Twins Variety Giants 21-0. George Hopkins was the workhorse, scoring on a 9-yard run, tossing a 35-yard TD pass to Eric Wilson, and adding a conversion. Stephen Hinkley tallied the final touchdown on a 12-yard scamper. Also carrying the pigskin well were Casey Thurlow and Tyler Haskell. Defensive standouts were Kevin St. Pierre, Hopkins, Hinkley, Mickey Barboza, Thurlow and Jacob Lajoie. Hinkley and Haskell each recorded a quarerback sack and St. Pierre intercepted a pass late in the game. Playing well for the Giants (2-5) were Tyrell Corson, Jeremy Kearns and David Demers.

Junior Division

In the Junior Division playoffs, No. 1 Grimmel’s Gas-Up Giants (7-0) knocked off No. 4 Aaron’s Sales and Lease Steelers 26-0. Quintarian Brown, Kyle Lemelin, Tony Curry and Brady Whetzel all reached the end zone. Shining on defense were Logan Lavoie and Tanner Pitman. The Steelers offense was led by Alex Nazaroff, Stone Colby, Matt Roddy, Tyson Jones and Ryan Allen. Playing tough defense for the Steelers (0-7) were Kyle Morin (3 tackles and a quarterback sack), Roddy (5 tackles), and Colby (3 tackles).

The No. 2 Northeast Athletics Junior Redskins (5-2) advanced to the finals with a 13-0 triumph over No. 3 Don Morin’s Photo Lions (2-5). The Redskins were led by Quarterback Dante Brooks and the entire offensive line. Defensive standouts were Derrick Peters, who picked up a Lions fumble and ran it back for a TD, Sabin Lavorgna, Sam Bridgham and Eddie Denis. Having a good game for the Lions were Sheon James, Zack Bartshe, Bodhi McKellick, Dolor Smith and Ethan Melvin.

Consolation games will be played Saturday at LAP, and the championship contests Saturday at Lewiston High School, as follows:

Consolation: 9:30 a.m., Junior Steelers vs Junior Lions; 11:00, Senior Steelers vs Senior Giants.

Championships: 6 p.m., Junior Redskins vs Junior Giants; 7:30, Senior Redskins vs Senior Lions.

In between the Junior and Senior championship games, the FLY flag program will conduct an exhibition contest.
