A potential storm is being created by those who fear that the passing of the Taxpayer Bill of Rights will weaken their path to success. They have named it Hurricane TABOR. They will use every angle over the next few weeks to convince people that if TABOR passes, we will see fewer policemen, firefighters and teachers.
They don’t mention administrative positions. I wonder how many superintendents of schools are needed. Why are TABOR opponents targeting the teachers, police and firemen?
I believe the scare tactics are really a smoke screen to cover up their well-paid careers.
Local, state and federal administrative positions have grown way too large for the taxpayer to handle. Having watched the debate on TV about TABOR, not one opponent ever mentioned a cutback in welfare. Maine has one of the largest and easiest manipulative systems in America. That’s another smoke screen for special interest parties. By avoiding a sensitive issue such as welfare, the politicians have a better chance of getting your vote.
The White House in Washington, D.C., has been sold out to special interest groups for years, and politicians involved need to be held accountable. TABOR may not be a quick fix, but it is a good beginning. My biggest fear is a non-stoppable giant called government.
