LISBON FALLS – Knight-Celotex, the world’s leading manufacturer of fiberboard, has been certified as meeting high standards for its safety and environmental commitment.
Earlier this year, the company was certified as meeting the standards for the Green Building Initiative and also earned the Star level for participation in the U.S. Department of Labor’s Voluntary Protection Program for safety.
Approval into VPP is Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s official recognition of the efforts by employers and workers to achieve exemplary occupational safety and health.
Knight-Celotex purchased the Lisbon Falls plant in 2003. The company has improved not only the employee safety record and plant emissions, but has also reduced its water discharge to the local wastewater treatment system.
Fiberboard products made in Lisbon Falls are constructed of up to 99 percent organic material, which is primarily comprised of post-industrial recycled Maine wood waste, according to the company. By substituting a vegetable starch for formaldehyde, the products meet the Green Building Initiative standards.
The initiative promotes practical green building approaches to energy efficient and environmentally sustainable building practices commonly referred to as “Green Building.”
Knight-Celotex is owned by Knight Industries LLC headquartered in Chicago.
