ORONO – Ryan Callahan had two touchdowns and 130 receiving yards to lead Maine to a 20-7 win over Villanova on Saturday.

Maine quarterback Ron Whitcomb connected with Callahan for an 80-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. Whitcomb completed 19 of 29 passes for 209 yards and the score.

Villanova (2-4, 1-2 Atlantic 10) was held to minus-24 yards rushing as Maine (4-2, 3-0) held a 337-170 edge in total offense.

Maine led 13-0 at halftime after second quarter Devin McNeill field goals of 24 and 36 yards. Callahan took an option up the middle for a 49-yard touchdown in the third to put the Black Bears ahead 20-0.

Wesleyan 17, Bates 14

LEWISTON – Chris Helsel kicked a 27-yard field goal in overtime to give Wesleyan University a 17-14 victory over Bates College on Saturday.

Zach Librizzi passed for 228 yards, with Ryan Walsh picking up 116 yards on 7 catches and Danny Granatell catching 7 passes for 111 yards, to lead Wesleyan (2-2).

Bates (0-4) scored first when Shawki White scored on a 67-yard interception return with 7:44 left in the first quarter.

Wesleyan tied the score on Phil Banks’ 2-yard run later in the quarter and took the lead on Librizzi’s 1-yard run with 40 seconds left in the half.

Bates tied the score at the end of the third quarter on Brandon Colon’s 1-yard run.

Amherst 38, Colby 3

AMHERST, Mass. – Nick Kehoe threw for 330 yards and three touchdowns to lead Amherst to a 38-3 victory over Colby on Saturday.

The teams traded field goals before Amherst (3-1, 3-1 NESCAC) pulled away. Jim Eckenrode caught the first of his two touchdown receptions with 41 seconds left in the half, to give the Jeffs a 10-3 lead.

Hamilton 12, Bowdoin 0

CLINTON, N.Y. – Ben Saccomano threw for 116 yards and a touchdown to lead Hamilton College in a 12-0 win over Bowdoin College Saturday.

Hamilton (1-3, 1-3 New England Small College Athletic Conference) ended a nine-game losing streak.

John Lawrence scored a touchdown in the first quarter on a two-yard run to give Hamilton a 6-0 lead.

Maine Maritime 21, Mass. Maritime 19

PORTLAND – Brandon Hamilton ran for two touchdowns and 97 yards and Maine Maritime Academy held off a fourth-quarter rally to secure a 21-19 victory over Massachusetts Maritime on Saturday.

Hamilton, who carried the ball 39 times, scored twice in the second quarter, both on 1-yard runs, to give Maine Maritime (4-2, 3-1 New England Football Conference) a 21-0 halftime lead.

Mass. Maritime (3-3, 2-2) came back in the fourth quarter when Joe DeFrank threw for three touchdowns.

The third score came after the Buccaneers recovered an onside kick following a touchdown, but a missed extra point, with 2:23 left in the game.

A 2-point conversion failed after Mass. Maritime pulled to within 2 points on DeFrank’s 7-yard pass to Stefan Stauber with 1:36 remaining.

For the game, DeFrank was 17-34 for 159 yards with four interceptions.

With the victory, Maine Maritime retained the Admiral’s Cup in the annual game between the two maritime institutions. Maine Mari
